Shows on January 19 and 20 from NM

Per my email to the gang at BES this morning: My take on the dudes getting lost in Santa Fe: you should have taken one of the ladies with you, so they could ask for directions!!!!! On the substantive side: I?m originally from NM and so was quite interested in the interviews with both Mr. Udal...

January 17, Tim Egan and Mr. Broder

2 comments: Live radio, eh? Can you hear me now??? :D I kind of wondered what was going to happen when David said he couldn't hear Bob. Then, Bob going for the "fill" while waiting for David to come back on line. And, regarding the Dust Bowl. I lived 10 (long) years in Lubbock, Texas, and I assure y...

Good Night and Good Luck

Just realized that I never posted that I did, in fact see the movie--as soon as it opend in more general release (has to be general release if you're watching it in Santa Cruz, CA!!). It was wonderful!! I was riveted. I'm afraid it won't get as many honors as it should since it was released before s...

January 11 B of B

I still laughed when I heard (thanx for keeping it in!) Bob say "Hmph. Play the Radio" in response to the question: "Do you play a musical instrument, Bob?" Such an immediate and honest reply! (Plus, my Dad used to say that....)

Harry Shearer redux

I enjoyed hearing this one again--he has certainly had an interesting and long career! I don't care for his radio show much--don't know why, it's the pacing or something....maybe a bit of a supercilious attitude??? In any case, do enjoy some of his other work. I think we're all glad that Harry took ...

She didn't marry him...

I would like to have heard more about this guy (Magnus): how come he's in charge of the Henry Miller library? Where did he come from??? He was extremely well spoken, informed and entertaining. I was very impressed. (However, immediately I compared this man's speaking ability vs. the director of the ...

Artist Confidential November 22: Paul McCartney

So Sir Paul McCartney was physically in the hallowed halls of XM, specifically in the performance studio. Don't know when this was recorded and wish I knew how the people in the audience got to be audience members! Anyway, this show was "broadcast" on about 5 different XM channels simultaneously. (6...

Music accompaniment behind the readers

Anyone besides me find some of the music that's been playing in the background (for mood?) while the author(s) read a little disconcerting? I'm not sure I like it.... :?:

Today's Show--October 18--Barbara Ehrenreich

Apparently Bob didn't talk to the Production staff much before the interview with Barbara Ehrenreich, and it also shows that he hasn't had to spend much time on looking for a job! An elevator speech is geared to the time one might be in an elevator with someone: you'd have that long to do your spiel...

It never ceases to amaze...

I've cut a couple of things from that article that I feel driven to comment on: "Andi Sporkin, named vice president for communications at NPR in April, said, "I think there's remorse about how it was handled in terms of the PR. It could be the reason I'm here. There were changes on the show they wan...
